Buying weed in Oklahoma, start to finish

Straight answer

Oklahoma is medical only. You need an OMMA card, from an Oklahoma physician if you live here or a 30-day license if you're a patient back home. Then 1,080 licensed dispensaries are open to you, at 3 ounces of flower a sale. Budget about 15.6% in tax in Oklahoma City, bring cash or debit, and never drive with THC in your system.

The sixty-second version

Voters passed State Question 788 on June 26, 2018, with 56.86% yes, and turned down adult use with State Question 820 on March 7, 2023, 61.67% no. So every store here sells only to card holders, and OMMA licenses every one of them. The state counted 304,186 patients on October 1, 2026.

The rules are easy on getting a card and on what you can carry, and strict in three places, the car, the state line and smoking in public. Every guide on this page is checked against the statutes, the regulator's rules and pages, the Tax Commission and city codes, with the source linked at the bottom.

What changed in 2025 and 2026

Two years of new laws changed how you buy, carry and drive.

  • June 1, 2025. Flower is sold only pre-packed, and counter weighing ended November 1.
  • November 1, 2025. New label warnings, 12-character license numbers with a barcode, and the car law on open containers and secondhand smoke.
  • January 2026. Recommending physicians must register with the state, and from January 6 the approval email works at the counter.
  • April 28, 2026. State-licensed medical marijuana moved to Schedule III under federal law. The regulator says state rules didn't change.
  • August 1, 2026. The pause on new business licenses runs to August 1, 2028.
  • November 1, 2026. Edibles can't look like candy or come in human, animal or cartoon shapes, and safety-sensitive jobs go zero tolerance.
  • December 11, 2026. The federal 0.4 mg hemp cap starts.

Nothing about cannabis is on a 2026 ballot. A legalization petition, State Question 837, was withdrawn on November 3, 2025.

05

Licensed store or not?

Only stores licensed by OMMA can sell marijuana. Hemp, delta-8 and THCA shops aren't dispensaries, and the regulator has no say over them.

  • Look inside. Licensed stores post their license where you can see it.
  • Check the number. OMMA Verify looks up any license.
  • Read the label. Real packages carry the universal THC symbol, a driving warning and a line saying the product was tested.
  • Red flag. A doctor's office inside the store. Recommending physicians can't share an address with a dispensary.
  • Report it. The regulator's business complaint form takes anonymous reports, and the call center is (405) 522-6662.

Dispensaries here, by the numbers

Of the 1,080 licensed spots we list, 714 post their hours. Most open around 9:30 AM and close around 10 PM, 425 stay open to 10 PM or later at least one night, and 625 open on Sundays.

No statewide rule limits store hours, so stores set their own and a few cities step in. Weatherford bars sales from 8 PM to 8 AM. The state counted 1,259 dispensaries on October 1, 2026, down from 2,893 in March 2023. New store licenses are paused until August 1, 2028, and the state hasn't published one reason for the drop. A 2023 study for the regulator found licensed supply ran 64 times what patients needed. The full rundown is in our dispensaries open late guide.

07

Oklahoma City, Tulsa and the rest

Oklahoma City has 212 stores on our list and Tulsa 120, then Norman with 40, Edmond with 32 and Lawton with 27. The card, the caps and the 7% are the same everywhere. What changes is sales tax and city rules.

Cities can zone stores but can't zone them out, and they can never set the patient caps below the state's. Tulsa bans smoking it in public. Start with the Oklahoma City dispensaries list if you're in OKC.

How we keep this right

Alexis 420 only lists stores on the license list from Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA). Law facts on these pages come from the statutes, the regulator's rules and pages, the Tax Commission and city codes, and we recheck them when the law changes.

Quick answers

Your questions, answered

Can adults shop here without a medical card?

No. It's medical only here, and every sale needs an OMMA license or a 30-day visitor license.

How many licensed dispensaries does Oklahoma have?

Alexis 420 lists 1,080 licensed dispensaries across 191 cities and towns. The state counted 1,259 on October 1, 2026.

Why do prices run so low here?

The regulator calls it a significant oversupply. A 2023 study it commissioned found licensed supply ran 64 times what patients needed.

Is adult use on the ballot here in 2026?

No. Voters turned adult use down in 2023, and the 2026 petition was withdrawn in November 2025.

Does buying here go on your record?

Not a criminal record. Each sale is logged to your license number in the tracking system, and OMMA seals application records.
