Buying weed in Missouri, start to finish

Straight answer

Anyone 21+ with a valid photo ID can shop the 226 licensed dispensaries we list, visitors included, at 3 ounces of flower per transaction. Budget about 18% in tax in Kansas City, bring cash or debit, and use it on private property, never in public or a moving car.

The sixty-second version

Cannabis rules live in the state constitution, Article XIV, and voters added adult use with Amendment 3, in effect since December 8, 2022. The Division of Cannabis Regulation licenses every store, and because the rules sit in the constitution, lawful possession isn't grounds for a search or an arrest.

The rules are easy on visitors, delivery and gifting, and strict in three places, public use, the car and the state line. Every guide on this page is checked against the constitution, the regulator's rules and pages, the Department of Revenue and city codes, with the source linked at the bottom.

What changed in 2026

A new state law and two federal moves set the picture for the year.

  • April 23, 2026. The governor signed HB 2641, the hemp and privacy law.
  • April 28, 2026. State-licensed medical marijuana moved to Schedule III under federal law. Adult-use stayed Schedule I.
  • July 1, 2026. The patient card fee is $28.92 for the year starting July 1.
  • November 12, 2026. HB 2641 kicks in. Stores can't keep adult-use shoppers' ID records without written consent, state agencies can't share patient lists with the federal government, and THCA flower and vapes, hemp delta-9 edibles and synthetic THC become dispensary-only.
  • December 11, 2026. Most of the federal 0.4 mg hemp cap starts, and the state's ban on the remaining hemp THC products is tied to the federal date.

Nothing about cannabis is on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

Licensed store or not?

Only stores licensed by the Division of Cannabis Regulation can sell. Delta-8, delta-10 and THCA from gas stations and smoke shops aren't regulated or lab tested, and under HB 2641 only licensed stores can call themselves a dispensary.

  • Check the window. Licensed stores show a "Verified Dispensary" decal whose QR code opens the state's map.
  • Read the label. Regulated products carry a license number starting with MAN, CUL, DIS, MBW, MBD or TES, which you can look up.
  • Tested at home. Everything is grown, made and tested inside Missouri for potency, mold, pesticides and metals.
  • Call it in. The regulator's line, 866-219-0165, confirms a license on weekdays.

Dispensaries here, by the numbers

Of the 226 licensed spots we list, 212 post their hours. Most open around 8 AM and close around 10 PM, 137 stay open to 10 PM or later at least one night, and 211 open on Sundays.

We haven't found a statewide rule on store hours, so cities set them. Kansas City and St. Louis allow 8 AM to 10 PM, and a Kansas City plan for 24-hour stores is still held in committee. The state counted 220 active dispensary licenses in 2025 and isn't taking new applications. Its 2024 report shows two licensees suspended and seven facility licenses expired or deactivated, and it hasn't published one reason stores close. The full rundown is in our dispensaries open late guide.

Kansas City, St. Louis and the rest

Kansas City has 23 stores on our list and St. Louis 23, then Springfield with 9, Columbia with 8 and Cape Girardeau with 6. The limit and the 6% state tax are the same everywhere. What changes is sales tax, the local 3% and city rules.

Kansas City allows open use nowhere in the city. Springfield bans it in parking lots and parked cars, and Columbia in any business open to the public. Start with the Kansas City dispensaries list if you're in KC.

How we keep this right

Alexis 420 only lists stores on the license list from Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR). Law facts on these pages come from the constitution, the regulator's rules and pages, the Department of Revenue and city codes, and we recheck them when the law changes.

Quick answers

Your questions, answered

Who can shop at a Missouri dispensary?

Anyone 21 or older with a valid government photo ID, resident or visitor. Patients can shop at 18 with a card.

How many licensed dispensaries does Missouri have?

Alexis 420 lists 226 licensed dispensaries across 113 cities and towns, from the state's license list.

Is a medical card needed to shop here?

No. Adult-use stores sell to anyone 21+ with a valid ID. A card mainly cuts the tax and raises the limit.

Does buying weed here go on your record?

No. Buying at a dispensary creates no criminal record, and from November 12, 2026 stores can't keep your ID information without consent.

Why have some Missouri dispensaries closed?

The state hasn't published one reason. Its reports show a few suspensions and expired licenses, while active dispensary licenses grew from 201 to 220 between 2023 and 2025.
