How much weed can you buy in Minnesota?

Straight answer

2 ounces of flower, 8 grams of concentrate and 800 mg of THC in edibles in a single sale, and those are also the most you can carry in public. Each type has its own cap. Visitors get the same limit as locals, and at home you can keep up to 2 pounds.

The caps, in plain words

Part of our Minnesota dispensary guide, this page covers how much you can walk out with. The law caps each sale and what you carry in public, and the numbers match.

ResidentVisitor
Flower2 oz2 oz
Concentrate8 g8 g
Edibles (THC)800 mg800 mg

Dispensary edibles top out at 10 mg of THC a serving and 200 mg a package. Hemp THC gummies and drinks from a liquor store or bar count toward the same 800 mg. Vape concentrates can't pass 80% THC, and infused pre-rolls are capped at 50%.

Build a bag

Pick resident or visitor, the caps are the same, then tap items into the bag. Flower, concentrate and edibles each have their own meter.

What's on you is what counts

A store can't knowingly sell you more than you can legally have, and the public limit follows you out the door. A second stop that pushes your bag past 2 ounces puts you over, whichever store sold it.

A little over, up to 4 ounces of flower in public, is a petty misdemeanor. From there up to a pound is a misdemeanor, and more than 2 pounds is a felony. At home the cap is 2 pounds of flower. Delivery follows its own rules, covered in Minnesota weed delivery.

Gifts, home grow and patients

  • Gifts. Adults can give another adult 21+ up to 2 ounces, 8 grams or 800 mg for free. A "gift" tied to a sale is illegal.
  • Home grow. Up to 8 plants per home, no more than 4 flowering, in a locked space out of public view, with no license.
  • Patients. The adult limits don't apply to an enrolled patient carrying products with their patient label.

Every other state's cap, drawn in eighths, is in our dispensary purchase limits by state guide.
