How much weed can you buy in Illinois?

Straight answer

Residents can have up to 60 grams of flower (about two ounces), 10 grams of concentrate and 1,000 mg of THC in edibles. Visitors get half, 30 grams, 5 grams and 500 mg. Each type has its own cap, so a cart doesn't eat into your flower, and the limits doubled on June 12, 2026.

The caps, in plain words

Part of our Illinois dispensary guide, this page covers how much you can walk out with. The state counts three things separately, and a 2026 law doubled every limit on June 12, 2026.

ResidentVisitor
Flower60 g30 g
Concentrate10 g5 g
Edibles (THC)1,000 mg500 mg

A vape cart counts as concentrate. Pre-rolls count as flower. Edibles count by milligrams of THC, so a 100 mg pack of gummies uses 100 mg of the cap. You can carry the max of all three at once.

Build a bag

Pick resident or visitor, then tap items into the bag. Go over a cap and the register would stop you.

Your bag is empty.

Two stores in one day

The law caps what you have on you, not how many stores you hit. A second stop is fine, but knowingly buying an amount that puts you over the limit is illegal. The state tracking system logs each sale by store, employee, product and time, not by your name, so a second store can't see your first buy. The cap still applies to everything in your bag.

Going over the possession limit is where the trouble starts. Read buying weed in Illinois from out of state if you live in another state.

04

Medical patients get more

Registered patients can buy 2.5 ounces every 14 days, and a certifying professional can ask the state for more. People in the Opioid Alternative Patient Program get the same 2.5 ounces for 90 days per certification.

Every other state's cap, drawn in eighths, is in our dispensary purchase limits by state guide.

Quick answers

Your questions, answered

What is the most weed you can buy at once in Illinois?

Residents can have 60 grams of flower, 10 grams of concentrate and 1,000 mg of THC in edibles at the same time. Each has its own cap.

How much can someone from out of state buy here?

Half the resident limit, which is 30 grams of flower, 5 grams of concentrate and 500 mg of THC in edibles.

Is it legal to shop at two dispensaries in one day?

Yes. The cap is on what you possess, so a second stop is fine as long as your total stays under it.

Can a second store see what I already bought?

Sales are logged in the state tracking system by store, employee, product and time, not by your name. A second store can't see your first buy, but knowingly buying past the limit is still illegal.

Did the purchase limit go up in 2026?

Yes. A 2026 law doubled the adult-use limits on June 12, 2026. Before that, residents could buy 30 grams of flower.
